Coming Up
The
Olympics are almost here!
It
seems like just yesterday that Gurpreet & Raakhi along with
Dhol Nation Academy performed at the opening of the Olympic curling
rink (Gurpreet & Raakhi seen below posing with mascots Quatchi
& Miga).
Well
that was on Feb. 19, 2009 and it's been almost a full year. Time
has flown by and now the Olympics are almost here. On Feb. 12th
it all begins with the opening ceremonies, so be sure to turn on
your TV and see if you can spot Gurpreet & Raakhi and our friends
from Footedge Dance Company amongst the thousands of performers
who will be participating in the opening/closing ceremonies!

2010 Performances
Now
that the Olympics are almost here, South Asian Arts is at it again.
We will be showcasing Indian dance, music, and culture throughout
the city as we'll be participating in a host of Olympics related
events. We'll be working with artists from some of the most talented
groups in the lower mainlaind, including Footedge Dance Company,
Dhol Nation Academy, Elite Bhangra Entertainment, Naqsh, Shan E
Punjab Arts Club, the UBC Girlz Bhangra Team, and many more.

Wedding: July 23-26, 2009

In
partnership with New Works and the Pacific National
Exhibition, South Asian Arts presented Bollywood
Wedding in the Italian Gardens on the PNE fair grounds.
It was an outdoor, interactive opportunity for the audience
to experience traditional Indian wedding customs, in the form
of a wild and hilarious event, bringing the whole dysfunctional
family together for an evening of fun and melodrama.
The
audiences were treated to six SOLD OUT shows in four
days!

Asian Arts brought together it's own Bhangra dancers and
Dhol drummers in collaboration with members of Footedge
Dance Company, United Bhangra, and the UBC Girlz
for the performance of their lives...the 2009
JUNO Awards!

We
all came out dancing with Russell Peters, the host of the show for
the second straight year, as part of his big entrance.
